#LoveYourHair is a new mission to broaden the definition of beautiful hair by celebrating all hair (types, textures, styles, colors) and inspiring real women to do the same.
I am so excited to be partnering with Dove Hair and their #LoveYourHair campaign! #LoveYourHair is a new mission to broaden the definition of beautiful hair by celebrating all hair (types, textures, styles, colors) and inspiring real women to do the same.
According to Dove Hair, only 11% of women love everything about their hair and wouldn’t change anything about it. 11 percent! That number is far too low if you ask me, but I totally get it. It wasn’t until about 2 years ago that I started to embrace and love my hair. My natural hair. I didn’t even know I had the curls that I now love, because I spent my life chemically straightening and blowing out my hair. Why? Because my grandmother had straight hair and thought my mom (who has naturally curly hair) should also have straight hair. So then my mom, in turn did what was done to her, to me, because at the time, that’s all she knew. It was a cycle influenced by a society that thinks curly hair is “unprofessional,” “messy,” and “too ethnic-looking.” Luckily, I think these stereotypes are changing as more curly hair girls are letting their curls free. My mom broke the cycle with my younger sisters and I have broken the cycle with myself. Now, I’m not saying I’ll never wear my hair straight again, I do all the time! But, the difference is, now wearing my hair straight is an option instead of a mandate. Now, I wear my hair straight, curly, up, braided and everything in between. I experiment with new styles and #LoveMyHair! It’s liberating and awesome.
OK, now it’s your turn! Celebrate how you #LoveYourHair by sharing photos of your own unique, beautiful hair on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #LoveYourHair and check out this awesome film on YouTube.
