style me bridal – the ring

Damien and I decided about a year ago that we wanted to pick out my engagement ring together. We thought it would be just as special, if not more, to choose it as a team.

And so it begins. My first post of my new monthly Style Me Bridal series. Every first Wednesday of the month from now until my big day, I’ll share the journey with you. Today it’s all about the ring! Damien and I decided about a year ago that we wanted to pick out my engagement ring together. We thought it would be just as special, if not more, to choose it as a team.

I knew I wanted an antique ring rather than a traditional engagement ring so our first (and last) stop was Platt Boutique Jewelry. A boutique shop, owned by siblings, full of antique beauties.

The second I tried this ring on (after trying about 20 others), I knew it was the one! Funny side note: Larry, who’s one of the owners, picked it out of the case for me…I didn’t even notice it until it was on my finger. It’s an Edwardian Era piece from 1915 and I’m totally in love.

Antiques are not only great because of their originality, but they also tend to be less expensive than a modern piece. Diamonds today are “higher quality” so you spend more. I say screw the “higher quality,” give me a pretty diamond that I won’t see on the next girl! Plus, personally I think the “a man should spend a month’s salary” on a ring is a little outrageous…I much rather we use that money towards a house or our honeymoon.

It’s sooooo weird being engaged. Damien and I have been together for 5 years and I always knew we would get married one day, but now it’s real. I didn’t think I could love him more than I already did, but guess what? I do! Our engagement was unconventional but perfect and so freaking emotional! No one ever tells you that part! Now, it’s time to plan a wedding. I’m such a control freak, I’m afraid I may turn into Bridezilla but I’m going to try my hardest not to let that happen. I love my man, my friends and my family too much to put them through that.

Any engaged or married readers with engagement or ring stories they want to share?
Would love to hear from you!
