    Fall Update - GRASIE MERCEDES

It’s officially fall! The start of a new season, which feels like the start of new beginnings. With that, I wanted to share some fall updates with you: what’s going on with me professionally and personally.

Professionally, I’m plugging away at a few different things. I’m working on draft number two of a television pilot I’m hoping to sell. Writing has always been something I wanted to try but was too intimated to do alone. Hence, I would partner with friends or Damien to write. I never felt confident enough to go solo. But then a story popped in my head. It was something I thought up years ago as a documentary. Recently, I thought it would make a great series and went for it…all by myself.  And you know what? I love writing alone! Ha! I still get advice from friends but the writing is all me. So I’m plugging away at draft two and have some interest brewing…fingers crossed!

In addition to writing, I’m still auditioning for acting roles here and there. Things are not nearly as busy as I would like them to be but I’m grateful for every opportunity. I’m still in class once a week at BGB Studio, so at the very least, I have that! One night a week to act, to work and to connect. I’m also looking into directing more. Directing Egg Day was so hard but so rewarding. I loved every minute of it and I want to do it more. But, I want to learn about television directing too, which is a bit different. I think. That’s the thing, I don’t really know what it entails. All I know of television directing is what I see on set as an actor. I want to shadow a television director and learn more about that world. And, in addition to all this, I’m maintaining my blog, social media and brand partnerships. You might say I’m a bit all over the place but that’s exactly where I like to be.

Personally, I wanted to share an IVF update. A couple of people have reached out asking about when we might transfer etc. Well, originally the plan was to wait until next year but things may be moved up a bit. After we found out we had a successful round two of IVF and an embryo that passed testing, I had a follow up appointment. The doctor checked my uterus and found more fibroids. Fibroids that could lower my chances of a successful FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer). So now, I’m dealing with that! What does that mean? Well, I’m currently on birth control and yesterday got a shot of Lupron Depot which is a medication that suppresses hormones for a month. Fibroids feed off of hormones and taking these drugs cut that off and hopefully shrink or get rid of them. The sides effects are not great: hot flashes, mood swings, trouble sleeping etc. but if it works, it will be well worth it.

What then? In about a month I will be rechecked and the doctor will reassess. Hopefully the fibroids will be gone or at least small enough to not be an issue. I’m also seeing an alternative medicine doctor for acupuncture and other natural treatments that might assist in the elimination of the fibroids. With all this, a November FET might happen or it might not. It’s all up in the air. We only have one embryo so we need to do whatever it takes to give it the best shot at implanting.

And that’s everything! Whew, feels good to get that off my chest!

Oh wait, there’s more! Hayden had surgery today. He had to have a cyst removed and I’m happy to say the procedure was successful. Now, we are just praying that it’s a benign mass and not the big C. I think he is going to be fine but of course, it’s still so scary. My boy is such a strong, little guy! Ugh, I love him so much it hurts.

Okay, that’s really it now. If you made it this far, you’re awesome and I thank you for caring/listening. Feel free to leave a comment below with any questions or to just say hi! Hope you have a lovely week. xo
