our first home : dining room
Since the open floor plan has very clean lines, I wanted a round dining room table to soften it up.
The next stop on the room by room tour of our first home is our dining room. I should take this time to mention our new floors. As you can see in the “Before//After” photo, the floors were a dark laminate, that we didn’t like very much. Before we moved in, we took a month for renovations and redid the floors in the entire house. We choose red oak real wood floors that brighten up the entire place. It’s incredible how much changing out the floors made a huge difference in the aethetic and design of the house. Ok, now onto the decorating!
Since the open floor plan has very clean lines, I wanted a round table to soften it up. We went with the Design Within Reach Cross Round dining table and six Eames chairs in three different colors and two different textures. Then, we installed the DWR Nelson ball pendant lamp over the table. What I really loved about the pieces togethers is that we were able to mix classic designs like the Eames Chairs and Nelson Pendant with a table by current designer, Matthew Hilton, for a look that’s very warm modern. Again, we wanted to invest in high quality pieces that will last a lifetime and are very happy with our choices. Plus, I love a round table for entertaining, it’s so much easier to include everyone in the conversation!
The storage piece on the floor is from IKEA and houses family china given to us by Damien’s parents. We placed some of our favorite books and our record player on top then stacked some of our favorite records on the side. Along the wall hangs framed records we used as guest books for our wedding. Again, we wanted to decorate with meaningful pieces and not just throw anything on the walls. For the space that ties the living room to the dining room we placed a bar cart from with a hung tapastry above it. A strategetically placed plant (to hide the light switches) and we were done! A dining room we look forward to hosting many dinners and special events in for years to come.
Stay tuned for more posts each week as I take you through our new home!
