I try to eat well. I do. But every now and then I’m a sucker for some yummy, cheap, comfort eats. Here are 3 of my favorite spots in LA. I’m hungry.
1. ORD HOY-KA NOODLE – This tiny spot in Hollywood’s Thai town is freaking delicious and has the best soup ever. I go for the large Hoy-ka Noodle bowl, vegetarian style with fried tofu and thin noodles. It’s hot goodness! And speaking of hot, be sure to specify how spicy you want it. I’m a whimp and go “no spice” or “very little spice” depending on how adventurous I’m feeling that day. Their “spicy” is real SPICY so be careful…you’ve been warned. It’s cash only and super cheap. Go there now!
2. JOE’S PIZZA – Okay, here’s the deal…though this Joe’s Pizza is NOT affiliated with the famous Joe’s Pizza on Bleecker in NY (they even have a tiny disclaimer at the bottom of their website stating this) it’s the closest thing to real NY pizza you’re gonna get in Hollywood! According to LA Joe’s owner, he was “associated” with the famous NY location and knows the secret recipe. Ha! Whatever the story, the pizza is delicious! And as a native New Yorker, I give my official NY Pizza stamp of approval. A plain cheese slice will run you about $3, which is sort of ridiculous but totally worth it. (I remember when a slice was a dollar! I’m old.)
3. IRV’S BURGERS – If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook then you know I love In N Out, you’ve seen the pictures. But sometimes you gotta change things up in the burger game. Irv’s is a fantastic alternative. This little hamburger stand in West Hollywood, run by the adorable Hong family, has some tasty burgers and incredible service. Seriously, they are the nicest people around! That little note on the burger plate was for Damien. My plate said “Just for you Sugar Mama” and had a drawing of a cartoon woman. Hilarious. The burger is damn good too. The #2 meal is a double cheeseburger with fries and a soda and will run you about $8. Yum!
