our first home : living room
The living room of any home is super important. It’s probably where you spend the most time and Damien and I wanted something cozy.
Last week our new home was featured on MyDomaine and I shared my tips on buying your first home in Los Angeles. Now, I’m going to share room by room posts here and show you how we took a generically flipped home and made it our own. I’m kicking things off with the living room.
The living room of any home is super important. It’s probably where you spend the most time and Damien and I wanted something cozy. We both wanted an oversized leather couch that we could just sink into after a long day. We love watching tv together and comfort was key. We also have 3 pets and needed something durable, that repelled dog and cat hair. Enter the Como Sectional from Design Within Reach. An investment that’s pure luxury and our congratulatory gift to ourselves for buying our first home. This sofa is everything and will only get better with age. It’s the kind of sofa that you shouldn’t sit on if you have somewhere to be because it will suck you in (in the best way possible)! It’s definitely a statement piece and really anchors the entire open floor plan. We are in love!
To compliment our sofa we went with a neutral rug from West Elm, a clear, acrylic coffee table from CB2 and the Line Media Console from DWR. The rug has a subtle, geometric pattern, which I love and the coffee table is the epitome of chic function without flare. The console has a louvered front, which means you can store your components inside, close the doors and the remote will still work. Something we were definitely looking for since I hate the look of cable boxes. (Yup, I’m a little nutso about things like that!)
With all our furniture in place, all that was left was an epic gallery wall. I found this photo on Pinterest and used it as inspiration for our wall. Our designer Caroline Wolf of HomePolish, skillfully plotted out the layout in Photoshop. All the pieces on the wall mean something to Damien and I. It includes photos I took on our honeymoon safari in Africa, a photo of NYC where we met, and art pieces by our friend Ryan Garvey. Frame Monster custom-framed most of the pieces and we were ready to hang. It took about 2 hours and lots of team work to get it all up, but it turned out perfect! With our gallery wall complete, our living room was done and we love everything about it!
Stay tuned for more posts each week as I take you through our new home!
