For the next 3 days, I’m going to take you on my Americana Tour! Damien and I connected with another couple in Chicago to kick things off, then spent 7 days over 4th of July week traveling through Chicago, South Dakota & Wyoming. It was a really fun and eye-opening trip. I’m so excited to share. Okay, let’s get into it with Chicago and what may be my new favorite city in the U.S.!
Chicago is so much fun. It’s a great city with delicious food and amazing live music. Luckily, I got some fantastic recommendations from Chicago born and raised friends that I have in LA. Here’s where we went:
Yes, it’s a very tourist thing to do but, just do it! It’s a really cool thing to see and it’s located in beautiful Millennium Park, right by the water. We were fortunate enough to stay at a friend’s house with an amazing view of it all too.
This is the place to get an amazing Chicago dog! It’s also a great place for chocolate cake, fries and Italian beef and sausage! We went twice in 24 hours. Yup, that good!
A lovely natural history museum worth the visit for SUE alone. Who’s SUE? Watch the documentary film Dinosaur 13 then go visit her!
This is the place to get amazing Chicago deep dish pizza! People will argue on who has the best deep dish in town but, man oh man, Pequod’s was DELICIOUS! We got a cheese pie and one with pepperoni and meatballs. Those might have been the best meatballs I’ve ever tasted.
Chicago B.L.U.E.S. is a blues club on the north side and it’s awesome. We strolled in after dinner on our first night in town and we were hooked. An amazing blues band was electrifying the whole place! Cocktails are cheap and strong and the vibe is perfect.
A delicious restaurant in Lincoln Park, Oyster Bah is a seafood spot that won’t disappoint. Also, if you’ve never had an oyster before and eat your first one there, they’ll put your name on the wall! It’s true. One of our friends did it and will have a plaque up soon!
From blues to jazz! Green Mill in Uptown was the spot for live jazz music and an electric environment. The stage is set behind the bar and the music was fantastic.
That’s it for Chicago! At least for now. It’s a great city and I’ll definitely visit again soon. Come back tomorrow and Friday for more from our trip!
