Damien and I had a magical time spending 4 days in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. We arrived at the Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita near Punto Morelos and were greeted by a friendly staff and beautiful accommodations. The ocean view from our room was breathtaking. We spent the first day doing nothing and it was pure bliss. We lounged by the gorgeous pool, drank margaritas and consumed more guacamole than I thought humanly possible. We took long walks on the beach and photos on the pier then ended the night with a yummy dinner and more margaritas.
The next day we took a cab to Tulum and visited the Mayan Ruins; an awe-inspiring landmark that transports you back in time. It was totally crowded with tourists yet still maintained an untouched aura about it. From there, we went to Dos Ojos to take a plunge in a cenote (see the super ungraceful plunge pic above, ha!). Cenotes are caves and underground rivers created naturally over 6,500 years ago and found in the Yucatan Peninsula. We took the guided, cenote tour which included a rather scary exploration of a bat cave! WITH REAL BATS! The born and raised NY city girl in me was terrified but it was still super fun.
Come back tomorrow for more from our trip including shopping in town, a gorgeous boat excursion and snorkeling. Oh man, I want to go back!
